Virtual commissioning

Virtual commissioning: Efficient optimisation and testing of machines and systems
Virtual commissioning (VIBN) is a powerful tool for testing and optimising machines and systems in a virtual environment. Using a digital twin, we can test the behaviour of the machine control system under real conditions without the need for physical prototypes.
We have already successfully implemented numerous projects for our customers and the advantages of virtual commissioning are manifold:

  • Shorter project lead times: By using the digital twin, the software can be comprehensively tested while the machine is still being set up. This shortens the time between the start of commissioning and delivery of the system by up to 40%.
  • Higher software quality: Extensive tests, which are hardly possible in the real environment due to a lack of time or the risk of damage, can be carried out in the virtual environment. This leads to a significant increase in software quality at the start of commissioning.
  • Saving on prototypes: Especially with systems for new products, there are often no or only a few test parts available. Any number of machine runs can be simulated in the virtual environment without the need for expensive prototypes of the customer’s products. This provides considerable cost savings for our customers.
  • Testing of special processes: Special processes, such as retooling or measurement series, can also be tested in the virtual environment, even if the products required for them are not yet physically available.
  • Minimisation of downtimes: Even when the systems are already installed at the customer’s premises, changes, enhancements and optimisations are frequently required. By testing the modified machine software on the digital twin, we can reduce the downtimes of the customer’s systems and minimise expensive downtimes.
